An outdoor 5-a-side turf shuts down in the monsoon and cooks players in the May sun. That is the entire pitch for going indoor — but "indoor" is not just an outdoor pitch with a roof stuck on top. It is a different building and a different cost profile, and nobody selling you a quote will volunteer that upfront.
Every football turf article you find quotes an outdoor number — ₹25–45 lakh all-in for a standard 5-a-side arena. That figure is real, but it assumes open sky, natural drainage, and daylight. The moment you enclose that same court, you remove the drainage problem and add two new ones: how do you keep a windowless box from turning into an oven, and how do you light it without a single ray of sun.
There is no single sourced "indoor futsal cost" figure published anywhere in India yet — this guide builds the number honestly, component by component, and flags every place we are estimating rather than quoting a sourced price.
Indoor Futsal Court Size & Height
An indoor futsal court plays on the same 40m × 20m FIFA Futsal Laws footprint as an outdoor 5-a-side pitch, with a typical built footprint of 45m × 25m (about 12,100 sq ft) once you add a working clear zone around the lines. The one number that outdoor pitches don't need to worry about is height: FIFA Futsal Laws call for a minimum of 4–6m clear overhead, with nothing — no beams, no ductwork, no light fixtures — hanging into that space.
That height requirement is what rules out a lot of "cheap" sheds. A godown built for storage racking might only clear 3.5m to the underside of its trusses. Before you price anything else, measure the clear height at the lowest point of the roof structure, not the peak.
Why Indoor Costs Differently Than Outdoor
Indoor futsal is not "outdoor turf under a roof" — it is a genuinely separate cost profile, because the two builds solve opposite problems. Outdoor construction spends most of its budget getting water OFF the field: slope, sub-base drainage, French drains, perimeter swales. Indoors, there is no rain to manage, so that entire cost line disappears.
In its place, indoor adds two costs that don't exist outdoors at all: climate control for a sealed box with zero natural airflow, and full artificial lighting for a space with zero ambient daylight. You are not saving money by going indoor — you are trading one set of engineering problems for another.
The Enclosed Shell: ₹35–70L (Estimate)
Budget roughly ₹35–70 lakh for a purpose-built enclosed shell — a PEB (pre-engineered building) steel shed or repurposed warehouse sized for a ~1,125 sqm futsal footprint. This is an estimate extrapolated from comparable indoor sports halls, not a sourced futsal-specific figure, so confirm it with a site quote.
There is no published indoor-futsal structure cost in the Indian market yet. The closest verified anchor is an indoor multi-court hall: a 36m × 18m PEB shell for badminton/basketball runs ₹20–40 lakh for structure alone. A futsal shell needs a noticeably bigger floor plate (45m × 25m, roughly 1.7× the area) and taller clear height (4–6m versus 7–7.6m for badminton — comparable), so scaling that anchor up lands in the ₹35–70 lakh range for steel frame, roofing, and cladding only — no flooring, no lights, no fans.
The Fit-Out: ₹18–35L (Estimate)
Fit-out — flooring, lighting sized for a windowless hall, ventilation, goals, and fencing or rebound boards — runs roughly ₹18–35 lakh at a budget-to-mid tier, again an estimate built up from component prices, not a single sourced quote.
The floor is the biggest single line. PU sports flooring or an indoor-rated turf system for 12,100 sq ft prices out using the same per-sqft band as outdoor turf-only — ₹55–180/sqft for budget-to-mid grade — which works out to roughly ₹7–22 lakh just for the playing surface. On top of that, stack the costs outdoor pitches don't carry at the same level: higher-lux LED lighting for a fully dark hall, exhaust ventilation or turbo ventilators, goals, and fencing or rebound boards around the perimeter. Together, those push a realistic budget-to-mid fit-out to roughly ₹18–35 lakh.
Mini-story — Faridabad, 2025. An operator building his first indoor arena tried to save money by laying the same outdoor-grade synthetic grass turf he'd have used outside, skipping PU flooring entirely — no drainage layer needed indoors, he reasoned, so why pay for indoor-rated flooring. If you already own a warehouse or godown that clears 4–6m and can fit a 45m × 25m footprint, skip the ₹35–70 lakh structure cost entirely and budget only the ₹18–35 lakh fit-out — cheaper and faster to open than building from scratch.
Mini-story — Lucknow, 2025. Anil owned an idle 1,200 sqm warehouse near the outskirts of the city. Ground-up quotes for a new futsal shell were coming in above ₹75 lakh. Instead, he fit out the existing structure: PU flooring (₹9 lakh), an LED lighting upgrade to roughly 400 lux (₹7 lakh), exhaust ventilation (₹3 lakh), and goals plus rebound boards (₹3 lakh) — ₹22 lakh total, open in under ten weeks instead of the 4–5 months a ground-up build would have taken.
Ventilation & Lighting for a Windowless Hall
The two things that separate a good indoor futsal court from a miserable one are ventilation and lighting — both mandatory costs that simply do not exist on an outdoor pitch. An enclosed hall with no windows and no cross-breeze traps heat. In a North India summer, with outside temperatures already at 42–48°C, a sealed shed with players and lights running can climb well past that inside, with no natural airflow to relieve it.
Exhaust fans, roof-mounted turbo ventilators, or wall-mounted extraction are the baseline — treat them as part of the build, not an add-on. Some operators go further with evaporative cooling or partial AC for peak evening slots. Lighting needs the same rethink: with zero ambient daylight, an indoor hall needs 300–500 lux delivered evenly by ceiling-mounted LEDs across the full 40m × 20m area, higher and more uniform than the 200–300 lux that's acceptable for a recreational outdoor pitch that gets some daylight assist.
Mini-story — Gurgaon, 2024. Rohit built a ₹68 lakh indoor futsal hall and cut ₹4 lakh from the quote by dropping the exhaust ventilation line, assuming ceiling fans would be enough. What Goes Wrong

- Undersized lighting for a windowless hall. A lux level that reads fine outdoors with daylight assist leaves dark patches and eye strain indoors, where there is no natural light to fall back on. This is a photometric design problem, not a wattage problem — spec lux per zone, not fixture count.
- Wrong flooring choice. Outdoor-grade synthetic turf laid indoors without a drainage path traps moisture, sweat, and cleaning water in the pile, leading to mould and odour — the Faridabad story above. PU flooring or a purpose-built indoor turf system avoids this.
- Condensation on steel roofing. An uninsulated metal roof over a humid, poorly ventilated hall can drip condensation onto the court in early morning and monsoon-adjacent months, making the floor slippery and staining PU surfaces. Roof insulation or adequate ventilation prevents it.
