A weekend sports club in Sector 57, Gurgaon, laid out a 5-a-side football turf and two pickleball courts with barely 3 metres between the football touchline and the nearest pickleball baseline. Cleared balls and hard passes landed on the pickleball courts within the first week of play, twice knocking a paddle clean out of a player's hand mid-rally. Fixing it meant a 4-metre ball-stop net and shifting both pickleball courts back 5 metres — ₹1.8 lakh nobody had budgeted, and the courts stayed closed for 12 days during the work.
That is the risk with this combo. Football, basketball, and pickleball are three separate surfaces — turf, acrylic, acrylic — each sized and costed on its own terms, not stretched across one shared slab. Get the buffers wrong and the fix means fencing and re-pouring, not repainting a line.

Can Football, Basketball & Pickleball Share One Plot?
Yes, but only if each sport gets treated as its own standalone build rather than one shared surface stretched to fit all three. A 5-a-side football turf is synthetic grass on its own graded base. An outdoor basketball court and a pickleball court are both acrylic on RCC — the same construction method, just different sizes — so they can share a contractor and a pour schedule without sharing a slab.

Here, pickleball gets its own dedicated court(s) beside the basketball footprint, not lines inside it, since this combo skips badminton.
The main planning risk in this combo is a football clearance or an off-line pickleball shot crossing into the other sport's live area, and every layout decision should be tested against that risk before concrete is poured. Four collision points come up again and again on real sites:
- Football clearances into basketball or pickleball. A 5-a-side pitch has no natural backstop on the touchline. A hard court closer than roughly 8–10m from that touchline will regularly take cleared balls. Keep the buffer, or fence the gap with a ball-stop net at least 3m high.
- Fencing height mismatch. A cleared football travels higher and further than a mis-hit pickleball dink, so the football-side barrier needs to be taller (4–6m) than the 3m perimeter fencing that suits pickleball alone. One low fence around the whole plot under-protects the football side.
- Orientation of the pickleball court. Facing a pickleball court's open sideline toward the football pitch gives a stray ball a more direct line into a rally than facing the closed baseline that way. Treat orientation as part of the buffer plan.
- Hard-court-to-hard-court spacing. Basketball's backboard overhang and run-off need their own 1–1.5m clearance from the pickleball courts too — a smaller risk than the football buffer, but still worth a metre or two of breathing room.
Mini-story — Noida, 2026. Facilities head Neha Kapoor combined the football turf's drainage into the same slope plan already designed for the basketball and pickleball courts, to avoid a second contractor mobilisation. The turf's monsoon runoff rate was far higher than the acrylic courts', and the shared drain line — sized only for the hard courts — backed up. Water pooled against the basketball court's boundary for three days after a heavy July storm. Re-engineering a separate outfall for the turf cost ₹3.2 lakh on top of a ₹92 lakh build, and the complex lost a weekend of bookings during the repair.
How Much Land You Actually Need
Plan for at least 1 acre (about 4,000 sqm) for this three-sport combo, and closer to 1.25–1.5 acres for comfortable buffers, parking, and changing rooms.
The football turf is the biggest single footprint: a 40m × 20m playing area needs roughly 45m × 25m (about 1,125 sqm) with run-off. The basketball court's 28m × 15m playing area needs about 500–550 sqm with run-off. Two pickleball courts, at 13.4m × 6.1m each, need roughly 160–200 sqm combined.
Add those three surfaces and you are at roughly 1,800–1,900 sqm before a metre of buffer. Budget another 500–700 sqm for the football-to-hard-court clearances described above, and you land at 2,300–2,600 sqm of playing-and-buffer footprint — comfortably inside 1 acre (4,046 sqm), which leaves room for parking and a changing area if the plot stretches to 1.25–1.5 acres.

Cost each block on its own using its own real INR range, add the shared site-wide items once, and that sum — not a single blended quote — is your real number. A lump-sum figure hides which surface is getting the thinner spec.

Construction-only, that puts a realistic three-block combo at roughly ₹41 lakh to ₹1.09 crore, land excluded. The football turf drives most of the swing, since its range depends heavily on soil. Black-cotton or poorly draining ground pushes excavation and granular fill to ₹50–150 per sqft before the turf goes down, which is why two quotes for the same-looking pitch can differ by ₹15 lakh or more.

Shared Infrastructure Savings
A few genuinely supportable economies come from treating the plot as one project instead of three, but they apply to infrastructure, not the playing surfaces themselves.
- One boundary wall, not three. A single perimeter wall or fence around the whole plot, with internal ball-stop netting only where the football buffer requires it, costs less than fencing each zone separately.
- One lighting and electrical backbone. Football, basketball, and pickleball lighting can share one transformer connection and cable trench instead of three service drops, though each zone still needs its own pole layout and lux target.
- One drainage design, sized per surface. Plan the slope and outfalls in one pass — but size the football turf's outfall to its own higher monsoon shed rate rather than reusing the hard courts' smaller drain line (see the Noida story above).
- One parking count for combined peak demand. Football evenings, basketball pickup games, and pickleball bookings rarely peak at the same hour, so parking can be sized for realistic overlap, not each sport's theoretical maximum.
None of this changes what the football turf, basketball court, or pickleball courts cost as individual surfaces — it only affects the shared-infrastructure line in the table above.
What Goes Wrong (and What It Costs to Fix)
Beyond the buffer-zone collisions already covered, the other two expensive mistakes on this build are underestimating the combined drainage load and getting the construction phasing wrong.
- Undersized buffer between football and pickleball. The single most common failure on this combo, covered above — a football rolling or flying into a live pickleball rally. Fix cost runs ₹1.5–3 lakh for netting and repositioning, more if a court has to be relocated and re-poured.
- Shared drainage sized for the wrong surface. Turf sheds monsoon water at a different rate than acrylic. A slope plan built around the smaller hard courts can't handle the football turf's runoff, and water pools against a court boundary. Re-engineering a separate outfall after the fact costs ₹2–4 lakh — a fraction of what it costs before pour, when it is just a design decision.
- Wrong build phasing. In Jaipur, developer Suresh Bhandari poured his two pickleball courts first, then needed heavy excavation equipment to cross them to prep the football turf's sub-base. The equipment cracked one pickleball court's acrylic surface and shifted a net post footing. Resurfacing and refooting cost ₹1.1 lakh and closed both courts for three weeks — a sequencing mistake a construction schedule would have caught before anything was poured.
Questions to Ask Any Contractor About This Combo
- Is each of the three blocks priced as its own line item, with shared fencing/lighting/drainage shown separately?
- Does the site plan include an 8–10m buffer or a 3m+ ball-stop net between the football touchline and the nearest pickleball or basketball edge?
- Is drainage designed with a separate outfall sized to the football turf's shed rate, not one slope plan built around the smaller hard courts?
- What is the pour sequencing — is heavy-equipment access for the football turf's sub-base planned before the finished acrylic courts go in?
- Is the land sized at 1 acre minimum, with 1.25–1.5 acres if you want parking and comfortable buffers?
