A developer in Faridabad wanted a 5-a-side football turf and a box cricket lane on the same plot, and the contractor happily gave him one blended rate per square foot for the whole site.
That single number hid a real problem: box cricket needs netting more than twice as tall as football's perimeter fence. Building both to one fence height cost him ₹3.2 lakh in retrofit work after the first cricket season, when balls kept clearing the shared boundary into the parking lot.
You can absolutely put football turf and box cricket on one plot — they share more infrastructure than most contractors admit. But they need to be designed, and priced, as two connected structures, not one blended number.
Can You Really Put Football and Box Cricket on One Plot?
Yes — a 5-a-side football turf (roughly 45m × 25m, about 12,100 sqft with buffer) and a box cricket lane (commonly 40ft × 80ft, about 3,200 sqft) fit comfortably on one plot of around 15,000–16,000 sqft, sharing civil work while keeping each sport's specific requirements intact.
The appeal is obvious: two revenue streams, one plot, one soil test, one electrical connection. Corporate campuses and housing societies in Gurgaon and Noida increasingly ask for exactly this combination.
The mistake most buyers make is assuming "combined" means "identical." It doesn't. Some layers genuinely share; others have to stay separate, and knowing which is which is what keeps the project on budget.
What They Can Share: Sub-Base, Drainage, Lighting
Football turf and box cricket can share the same sub-base type, the same drainage strategy, and the same lighting trench — because both surfaces sit on compacted granular fill and both need North India's standard monsoon drainage logic. Sharing these cuts duplicate site mobilisation, not the specification itself.
Sub-base. Both surfaces are built on compacted fill or PCC (porous concrete course), tested for the same CBR 10+ benchmark on standard alluvial soil. One soil test covers the whole plot; one civil crew can pour both bases back to back.
Drainage. Both need a minimum 1% slope and perimeter drainage sized for North India's monsoon. If one engineer designs both slopes to a shared low point and sump, you avoid the common mistake of two independently graded surfaces meeting at a seam that never drains.
Lighting. Recreational football needs 200–300 lux; evening cricket rental needs a broadly similar level. One trench run down the shared boundary can feed poles for both zones instead of two separate electrical mobilisations.
Where They Conflict: Netting and Fencing Height
Football turf perimeter fencing only needs to be 3–4m high, because a ball going out of play is normal and expected. Box cricket needs full enclosure netting 20–25 feet (roughly 6–7.5m) high on every side, because the format depends on the ball never leaving play at all. One fence height cannot serve both.
