Most public badminton sheds get by on fans, exhaust vents, and open sides — fine when players choose to be there, less fine inside an office building with no natural ventilation option. Before anything else gets specced, measure the clear height under the lowest obstruction — beam, duct, sprinkler pipe, cable tray — not the slab-to-slab height on the architectural drawing, because that single number decides whether the space you already have is usable for badminton at all.
BWF wants a full 9m of clear height for a shuttle to clear safely on a competitive smash. The right court count is capacity math, not a revenue projection — one court realistically serves twenty to thirty employees a day across a lunch and evening peak, two courts roughly double that, and four courts only make sense once headcount and sport-culture buy-in both clear roughly fifteen hundred to two thousand employees.

The four-court figure covers a full PU-surface hall, structure, lighting, AC and marking — it is not four times the single-court cost, because the shell and climate-control infrastructure are shared. Treat one and two courts as the realistic starting point for most campuses; a shared four-court hall only earns its cost once a large IT park has the headcount and internal demand to fill it.
Failure Modes That Cost Lakhs to Fix
The three failure modes we see most often on corporate campuses in North India: ceiling height measured from the wrong reference point, AC sized for a meeting room instead of a nine-metre-high enclosed hall, and a court built directly above or below occupied office space with no vibration check. All three look fine at handover and only surface once real play and real neighbours are in the building.
- Ceiling height assumed, not measured. Get the clear height under the lowest beam, duct or sprinkler pipe in writing before the space is committed.
- AC sized for floor area, not ceiling volume. A tall, sealed hall needs tonnage matched to its full air volume, or it runs constantly and still underperforms through summer.
- No vibration or acoustic check before build. A court above or below occupied space needs an acoustic underlay or floating floor specified up front, not retrofitted after complaints.
- Court count set by budget alone, not peak-hour headcount. Four courts for a 400-employee campus wastes capital; one for a 2,000-employee campus creates a queue nobody wants.
