A badminton doubles court measures 13.4m × 6.1m, and that is the size you build to even if most play on it will be doubles. The singles court uses the same 13.4m length but narrows to 5.18m wide, using only the inner sidelines. Build to the doubles dimension every time. There is no such thing as a "singles-only" slab worth constructing separately — you would be pouring a smaller court for no saving, since the land, flooring and lighting costs are driven by the doubles footprint anyway.
Net Height: Why It Dips in the Middle
The net sits at 1.55m at the posts and drops slightly to 1.524m at the centre — a built-in 26mm dip, not a sign of a loose net. If your installer strings a net dead flat at 1.55m all the way across, it is strung wrong and needs correcting before the court is signed off.
In plain terms: the posts anchor the net at its full height, and gravity plus the correct strap tension pull the middle down by a small, specified amount. Recreational-only courts can get by on less, but anything hosting real smashes, coaching, or tournament play needs the full 9m or shots get clipped.

Run-Off and Clearance Around the Court
Every serious badminton court needs a real, walkable buffer on all four sides — more behind each back line than along the sides — because players retreat much further chasing a deep smash than they ever move sideways. There is no single official number to quote here the way there is for the court itself, which is exactly why it is the dimension contractors trim first when a site is tight.
Treat run-off as a design decision to pin down on paper, not something to eyeball once the lines are painted. Ask your contractor to show the clearance as a real measurement on the drawing — distance from each boundary line to the nearest wall, pillar, or fence — rather than a vague "enough space to play."
